"Bitcoin Billionaires" by Will Damron
Review by Borodutch
Similarly to how "Out of the Ether" describes the story of Ethereum, this book traces the steps of Bitcoin dominance. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I didn't know about the emergence of one of the most groundbreaking technologies. Not to mention that the Winklevoss twins were in the middle of it. Yes, those who fought and settled with Zuck over the Facebook share.
Will is the author of "The Accidental Billionaires" book — the one on which the movie "The Social Network" was based. The film painted the twins in pretty bad colors, so the author dedicated this work to showing them in a different light. I'm not going to lie; Winklevoss's story is fascinating — starting with making the right decision to bet on Facebook stock and then acquiring 1% of all bitcoins. They didn't gamble much of their welfare on it — but how many people do you know who could bet on such things but never do?
On the other hand, the author goes deep into the early days of Bitcoin startups — including exchanges and onramps. I didn't know about the fight to ensure that Bitcoin complies with all the regulations. Well, now I'm a bit more knowledgeable about it — and I suggest everyone who's entangled in crypto read the book!
