"Buddha's Brain" by Rick Hanson PhD
Review by Borodutch
I've finished yet another book on mindfulness and cognitive therapy. It is somewhat interesting that Buddhism and therapy have many things in common. Basically, the book teaches us about mindfulness and self-awareness with a sprinkle of explanatory science and kindness to ourselves and the world.
- As usual, events don't affect us; our interpretations of the events affect us.
- We should be kind to ourselves.
- We should be kind to others.
- "Self" is just one part of the complex system called the "brain," trying to make sense of many incoherent subsystems primarily by tricking itself into falsely believing that they are coherent.
- Desires are ok, but cravings are bad.
- Letting go is a must-have skill, including letting go cravings.
This book reminded me more about self-awareness, mindfulness, and Buddhist philosophy. I can safely recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their lives.
