"Careless People" by Sarah Wynn-Williams
I think everybody should read this book to understand what's happening in the executive meeting rooms at the companies that control our everyday lives. What started as a beautiful story of an outsider getting into Facebook and leading its government relations quickly turned into a dystopian nightmare. After reading many books on the lives of execs, I'm sure that the depiction of the TV show "Succession" is as on point as "Silicon Valley" is on the VC game.
Instead of caring about the end customers, privacy, etc., the rich people care only about getting more prosperous and powerful. I don't know what drives people like Bezos, Musk, Zuckerberg, and Cook, but I'm afraid it isn't humanity's prosperity.
Besides the obvious parts about big companies being bad, I've learned way more about Meta's election interference and internal scandals like sexual harassment and pure disregard for employees' personal time.
