"Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick

I'm a fan of both Blade Runner movies and wanted to read the source material. I'm glad I did because the character is more like John Wick (from the first movie) or Jason Bourne (again, from the first movie) than what we mostly get nowadays. Today, we expect epic, humanity-saving, god-like characters going through impossible challenges. The protagonist of this book, though? He's tired and has to do his job.

The book's futuristic aspect is top-notch. Post-nuclear war, Earth is left to die by the people who immigrate to other worlds. The ones who are left are sick, old, or mentally challenged. Androids flee from the new worlds back to Earth in search of new lives in disguise as they are not deemed "alive" by humans. Humans care about their few animals more than about other humans.

The way Philip gaslit the main character and then me multiple times is something I sincerely appreciate. I like it when I don't know what will happen in the book.

I also started to appreciate the movie adaptations more. Now, I understand why we never know if the main character is an android. Also, the conscious minority, who are deemed less alive than humans, is definitely a metaphor. Metaphor that is more explored in the second movie rather than the first one.
