"Governing the Commons" by Elinor Ostrom

Review by Borodutch

Usually, I'm pretty eager to read political and economic books based on my studies. This time, though, the book bored me to death. Not only because it lacks any great insights but also because of how the story is told.

"Governing the Commons" simply describes what self-organizational structures emerged from common public resources like water, land, etc. Surprise-surprise, people without central government oversight self-organized into hierarchical semi-democratic structures.

It might be me, but I can't find this material exciting—but maybe it's on purpose. After all, the author's goal was to describe empirical evidence.

I feel that reading about kangaroo migratory patterns (if they migrate) could be a more exciting read.
