"Leviathan Wakes" by James S.A. Corey
Review by Borodutch
I've been a fan of the "Expanse" TV show for a while now. After they killed it in the last season, I decided to start reading the source material — like I did with Invincible and never regretted that. I love how the first season (as I remember it) was so true to the book! I also thoroughly enjoyed revisiting the characters from the show on the written pages, and boy, did they deliver!
If you aren't familiar with the show or the book series, feel free to jump in into either — you won't spoil the book by watching the show or the other way around. Both are made superbly. The plot is the same, but after a few seasons, I completely forgot the details, only seeing the larger picture. I was also pleasantly surprised by the character development and introduction. The motivation of the main protagonists is on point. If in the show, I've always questioned why Holden did what he did — the book is very much on point with his drivers.
The world the authors have built is coherent and captivating. Something that I can certainly see happening in the not-so-distant future. If you love hard sci-fi, I can highly recommend both the TV show and the novels! I'm sure you'll like them!
