"On the Road" by Jack Kerouac

After the first few chapters, I had high hopes for this book. However, what started as a colourful description of the USA in the 1950s became a teenage boy fantasy about how hitchhiking and adventuring would look across North America.

The main characters get together, party, find some random work, move to another state, repeat. Sometimes, people put too much trust in these childish boys. Often, there are depictions of poorness and violence, yet humanity is spilling through the cracks.

I don't know if I'd recommend reading "On the Road," but one thing is for certain: I wasn't bored by it (mostly) and wouldn't want my time back from reading it. However, I don't think the book has taught me anything (at least not anything good).
