"Revenge of the Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell
Review by Borodutch
Malcolm, Malcolm, here we are again: me reading your book and you being debunked as we speak. Gladwell has a history of making bold claims that don't survive the test of time or scrutiny. This time, the author revisits his first book on the tipping point 25 years after he wrote it. Here are the main points:
- Overstories (cultural beliefs) shape communitys' behaviours.
- Group proportions (regarding minorities and majorities) matter; there's a tipping point when the minority becomes as accepted as the majority when there are enough people from the minority group.
- Superspreaders: the very few who cause epidemics, including spreading social ideas.
Malcolm outlines multiple examples that support his ideas, as usual. Would this book stand the test of time? We'll see soon enough.
