"The Fund" by Rob Copeland
Review by Borodutch
At first, when I just started the book, I was let down because I thought that this was yet another one of these bullshit books about Bridgewater written by ghostwriters. I'm so disappointed that many people see Ray as rational or fair. However, it's not so difficult to believe what has been repeated so many times for the sole purpose of misleading. I was pleasantly surprised when the book was critical of Ray and Bridgewater—finally, some breath of bullshit-free fresh air.
The author is a true journalist, investigating and exposing the true nature of one of the most well-known hedge funds. Behind all this facade, Bridgewater is nothing but an underperforming financial company that nurtures the typical "financial bro" toxic mindset internally on a never-before-seen since the Wolf of Wall Street scale. It has it all: sexual harassment cases downplayed, self-proclaimed fake-democracy mini-dictator, unnecessary surveillance, china-like political officers (I'm not joking), shady deals with countries (as opposed to publicly traded companies), and much more!
I couldn't brush off the feeling that the head of the family in Succession was prototyped after Dalio, except if you only took the bad parts of the character.
Read this book if you still think Dalio is a financial expert or anyone other than a typical billionaire. It will be an eye-opener.
