"Self-Help Is Like a Vaccine" by Bryan Caplan
Review by Borodutch
This book is a clear window into how a progressive economist thinks. "Self-Help Is Like a Vaccine" is a collection of Bryan's essays about how the world works and how to live in it. If you have ever wondered what a PhD in economics thinks about parenting, academia, teaching, politics, and more, this book is right up your alley!
Even though I can't entirely agree with all the points Bryan makes, I can't argue that his ideas are logical and rational. It's LessWrong, but by an economist. Caplan has changed my views on homeschooling, unschooling, parenting, relationships, arguing—and probably some more.
Overall, this book has made me more contemptuous and rational in my words and deeds. I highly recommend Bryan Caplan as an author, so pick up this book!
